About Pastor Michelet & Elmire Cherenfant
Our Founders, From Visionary Roots to Global Impact, Since 1972.
The MEC Foundation serves as the institutional continuation of the life’s work of Pastor Michelet and Elmire Cherenfant. Originally conceived in 1972 as a visionary blueprint for global restoration, the Foundation evolved through four decades of direct, "boots on the ground" service before its official incorporation in Florida in November 2012. This long-standing commitment to marginalized communities is both holistic and practical, rooted in a deep-seated belief that philanthropy must be as compassionate as it is effective.
The Cherenfants dedicated their lives to dismantling the complex barriers of poverty by utilizing every resource at their disposal. Their approach was radical in its generosity: they secured educational pathways for the underprivileged, provided consistent nutritional security for the hungry, and frequently offered the sanctuary of their own home to the displaced. To them, the restoration of human dignity was not merely a goal, but a non-negotiable mandate that required total personal and professional sacrifice.
Today, the MEC Foundation carries this mantle forward, blending the Cherenfants' traditional values of service with modern strategic philanthropy. We remain steadfast in our mission to honor their legacy by fostering sustainable environments where the vulnerable can thrive. Our work continues to be guided by the same spirit of inclusivity and radical hospitality that defined the Cherenfants' lives, ensuring that their vision for a restored world remains a living, breathing reality for generations to come.

The Legacy of Pastor Michelet Joseph Cherenfant Sr.
Founder of The Michelet & Elmire Cherenfant Foundation
Pastor Michelet Joseph Cherenfant Sr. was a man of profound faith and global vision, whose life’s work became the cornerstone of the MEC Foundation. Born on October 10, 1923, in Fort-Liberté, Haiti, his journey was defined by a transition from educational leadership to a divine calling in the ministry. While serving as a school director in Limbé, he felt an unmistakable summons to the clergy, prompting him to move to Port-au-Prince to pursue theological studies at the Diquini Seventh-day Adventist Seminary.
His ministry was one of international scale and significant administrative responsibility. Pastor Cherenfant served with distinction as the President of the East Cameroon Conference and later as the Ministerial Director of the Central African Union. Throughout his travels and leadership roles, he remained a man of deep personal passions, most notably his love for soccer. A gifted athlete himself, he found in the sport a universal language that mirrored his own values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
In 1959, while in Limbé, he met Elmire, the woman who would become his lifelong partner in both faith and family. Together, they raised six children. Andre, Mirel, Myrna, Emec, Michelet Jr., and Urnia. Instilling in them the same mandate of service that defined their own lives. Today, the MEC Foundation stands as a living tribute to his journey from the classrooms of Haiti to the pulpits of Africa, carrying forward his mission to restore human dignity through compassion and spiritual leadership.
